  • Around the World in 18 Holes - Renditions Golf Course

    February 4th, 2010 by golodasa

From TheLocalGolfer.com - It’s hard to believe, but at Renditions in Davidsonville, MD, public golfers are provided the opportunity to play some of the greatest holes from golf courses across the globe. Each hole on the course is a replication of a famous hole from various major championships and world-renowned golf clubs. From Oakmont, Shinnecock Hills & Winged Foot to Royal Birkdale, Carnoustie & others, Renditions mimics the layout and design from these celebrated courses and brings them to a local setting.

Renditions’ slogan is “Golf’s Grand Slam Experience” and it lives up to its boast. As you approach the well-designed 1930’s-style clubhouse, the staff immediately greets you, takes your clubs out of your car, and preps your golf cart while directing you to check-in. It is evident that Renditions is a first class facility, and your experience is heightened before you step up to the first tee.

With exception of a couple of the tee boxes, the course conditions are immaculate. From fairway to green it is difficult to find a problem with the course, other than the fact that the “rough” earns its namesake and the elevation changes on the greens make for a frustrating round of putts. That being said, part of the attraction to Renditions is that you get to experience the game the way the Pros do, and after 18 holes, you certainly gain a new found appreciation for what Tiger, Phil and the guys (and gals) are able to accomplish every weekend.

Because of the design of the course, just about every hole may leave a lasting impression. For me, it did not get much better than playing Renditions’ version of Amen Corner. Considering that the course is in Maryland and not Georgia (meaning different climates, soil, wind, etc.), Renditions has done an excellent job attempting to replicate the most storied three-hole stretch in the game. Holes #6, #7 and #8 (Augusta National’s #11, #12 and #13)

are beautiful and challenging with small details adding to the experience, like the Leader Board with updates from the 2009 Masters and the Hogan Bridge. Standing over my ball on the #6 fairway analyzing my approach, I was willingly distracted by the #7 green, #8 tee box, water, bridges and all the other excitement of Amen Corner.

    What an incredible three holes.

The #13, Par 3 is a replica of the Island Green at TPC Sawgrass (#17). On TV, you see the best in the world struggle to land the ball on the island, and now I know firsthand that it’s even harder than it looks.

It looks like an easy shot with the green a mere 150 yards from the tee, but the combination of water surrounding the island and the slope and speed of the green make it extremely intimidating and virtually impossible (well, at least for the guys I played with. Not one of the four in my group landed the tee shot).

Although less than a decade old, Renditions has dealt with declining course conditions over the past couple of years. Admittedly, previous issues with the course were a direct result of overplay and misallocated resources, aspects which the new staff is very mindful of as they work to enhance the golfing experience of their guests.

The message from the general manager was clear — it’s not going to happen overnight, but they are taking all the necessary steps to make sure Renditions remains one of the top courses in the region. It’s the little things, like opening up the grass area of the driving range on the weekends and continuing to improve the menu at the Players Grill, that indicate the staff has the golfers’ interest at heart.

House Republican Is Choice for Secretary of the Army

    January 31st, 2010 by golodasa

WASHINGTON — New York is not thought of as a big military state. But Representative John M. McHugh, who was selected Tuesday to be President Obama’s secretary of the Army, has long stood out among his New York colleagues for his attention to military matters.

The fate of his district, which stretches across the state’s economically beleaguered North Country, has long been tied to the Fort Drum Army post, home to the 10th Mountain Division, whose soldiers have constantly rotated in and out of Afghanistan and Iraq for the past seven years.

He has been one of Fort Drum’s staunchest advocates in Washington, using his seat on the House Armed Services Committee to protect it from closing. He has also been aggressive about working to bring military-related jobs to the 23rd District.

But the efforts of Mr. McHugh, the ranking Republican on the committee, go beyond the parochial concerns of his district. He has been a supporter of spending on major military projects like the Navy’s F-14 fighter, built for years on Long Island, and the Marines’ V-22 Osprey.

He was also among a group of Congressional leaders President Obama personally briefed in February about his plan to withdraw troops from Iraq by 2010. While Mr. McHugh was concerned that the security situation in Iraq was fragile, he said he was reassured by Mr. Obama’s promise of flexibility.

“The president’s objective to withdraw U.S. combat forces from Iraq is one that we should pray for, plan for and work toward,” Mr. McHugh said after the meeting, in a display of the moderate brand politics he is known for.

Mr. McHugh, 60, is part of a vanishing breed in the House: centrist Republicans from Northeastern states. In New York, for instance, there are just three remaining Republicans, including Mr. McHugh, in the state’s 29-member delegation in the House.

Mr. McHugh’s resignation would mean a second special House election in the state, where Democrats managed to hold on to a heavily Republican district in the Albany area this spring after the incumbent, Kirsten Gillibrand, was appointed to the Senate to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Democratic leaders in Washington and New York contend that they have a chance at capturing Mr. McHugh’s seat, although the district favors Republicans.

Success of any website can be well measured by how much it is favored by its customers. Try to avoid any technical errors as they create a very bad impression on the user. If they are not addressed for long, it could drive the customers away from your website.

No website is static in nature like a printed material therefore regular updating keeps it on track. When a new product or any information is to be added on the website for showing it online, website maintenance has to be done. Even if you launch any new ad campaign or brand, it can be highlighted in your website.

Websites that refrain from changing their content and overall look for a lengthily period run the risk of loosing visitors’ interest. The older a site becomes, the greater the changes have to be made for maintaining the freshness quotient of the website. Beware of giving the website updating work to unprofessional people as it may do more harm than benefit, leading to bad formatting, broken links, slower downloads, etc.

There are two ways to maintain a website, firstly plan out a website maintenance agreement with your web designer, this would make them attend to your website and make relevant changes whenever and wherever necessary. Another option is employ someone in your organization who has the knowledge of HTML editor or word processing so that the employee can easily do changes in content and upload it.

Search engines when crawls into your website many times but finds the same old content, would start ignoring your website and avoid coming back thus badly hampering search engine ranking. All links that are present on your website should be in good and working condition and no dead links should be there. Such links leave a very bad impression on the visitors.
Always check on the loading time of your website, as speed is an essential part of every site. If it takes more time than necessary for loading visitors might go to another website. It is not important to stuff a site with decorative elements for greater web traffic. Keep it simple yet attractive and ensure speedy loading of the site.
Keep the online portfolio laced with latest project successful completion information. Usually the potential clients always visit the portfolio section to get an idea about your company’s accomplishments. Post all recent press releases and related information of your company on the website. It is always good to keep the visitors informed about the accomplishments which is a positive aspect.

Free Backup Software vs. Free Online Backup

    January 22nd, 2010 by golodasa

Why do you need backup software? The answer is because computer failures and crashes are a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’. So when the next crash happens you should be ready. Even you use the computer for home; you should know that it is important for you to protect your personal data by making backups of all your hard drives. With it, you can be sure that you are completely protected from data loss.

First off all, you need to remember that backing up your private data is a very important thing that you should always do. It is something that you should make a routine in order to protect your data from data loss.

Today anyone is able to do secure backups with absolutely no specific skills or knowledge of the high-tech industry thanks to the new generation of backup tools. Backup software makes creating data backups much easier than even copying a file or watching video DVD. When you are choosing solutions for backing up your critical computer files, there are two main ways you have. One is storing the backup files on CDs, DVDs or USB drives and the other is an online or remote backup service.

The fact that DVD and CD discs are much more stable than hard drives, you have to consider that backing up your files in DVDs or CDs is safer and will provide you with much more convenience. There is free backup software that you can download over the internet and install it in your computer. For example: Free Backup Mill. Basically, there are many free online backup services. Although it doesn’t really say that it is an online backup service, you can consider it to be so. You can try using your email account as your backup service as you can attach some important files and send it in your own email. This means that you will be able to have a copy of your files in the email.

Another good and recommended method to backup your important data is remote backups. As the name suggests, remote backup is backup store that you create in a remote computer. The concept of remote backup is just the same as online backup. However, it is important that you should not refer to it as the same. Remote backup is not online backup but is a part of it. It is where you save your file to another computer in real time.

And the last advise. When you are looking for backup software or service pay attention to five main features:

The first feature is that it will be able to backup and restore your entire machine. The second is that it will be able to backup and restore your Outlook emails. The third is that it will be able to backup your application settings. The fourth is that it will let you backup and restore your music, pictures, documents, videos and other files. The fifth backup feature is that it will enable you to backup and restore your data online. So, if you want to better protect your important and critical data, you might want to back it up using the any free backup software or free backup services.

Family Friendly Adventures in California’s Napa Valley

    January 18th, 2010 by golodasa

Where in the world can you pet a dolphin, dodge a geyser, fly high in a hot air balloon, ogle at ostriches, and tour a castle – all in a single day? Napa Valley, of course.
California’s Napa Valley is famous for its 300+ vineyards and wineries, but there’s so much more. It’s also an exciting, family-friendly destination. The area’s beautiful scenery draws hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. If your family prefers water sports, the Napa River has cruises, boat rentals, and even kayaking for the adventurous.
The Napa Valley is a short drive from San Francisco. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (formerly Marine World) is nearby in the town of Vallejo. Children (of all ages) are entranced by the marine shows featuring dolphins, seals, and killer whales. The many amusement park rides range from 11 gravity-defying roller coasters including the Boomerang – which goes backwards – to go carts, climbing walls, and toddler-friendly water play areas.
Continue north and you reach the town of American Canyon, gateway to the Napa Valley. The town offers affordable lodging options and convenient access to Napa and Sonoma County vineyards. Many wineries offer special wine tasting events, behind-the-scenes tours, and dinner packages.
The town of Napa is just 7 miles from American Canyon. Along with upscale shopping and dining options, the town is home to many Napa Valley tour companies. The hot air balloon tours won’t take you around the world, but do offer an exhilarating birds-eye view of the serene wine county landscape. Depending on the tour package, extras may include a champagne toast or even full gourmet breakfast after your flight.
There’s plenty to do on the ground too, as you continue north. Many families head straight for the small town of Calistoga, where wineries meet geysers.
The “Little Old Faithful" geyser is a top attraction. Stand back – way back! – and watch as scalding hot water shoots over 50 feet into the air every 30 minutes or so.
While the geyser is an impressive display of the area’s geothermal activity now, the Petrified Forest is a powerful reminder of the area’s violent volcanic history. Three million years ago, a massive volcanic eruption toppled a Redwood forest and covered it in a thick layer of ash. The silica-rich ash eventually turned the trees into solid stone. There’s a museum and shady trail where you can view the major tree excavations.
Calistoga’s Safari West offers a different sort of trail – one filled with cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and other exotic animals. It’s not just an animal park; Safari West is a 400-acre wildlife preserve dedicated to education and wildlife preservation. Visitors can take guided safari tours and even stay overnight in a luxury safari tent. Be sure to plan ahead: reservations are required for all tours.
Now, any parent who managed all this in a single day would surely be ready for at least one glass of wine. The Castello di Amorosa is just the place. Set in a stunning castle, the winery offers relaxing horse-drawn vineyard tours and welcomes visiting families with a special area for kids to enjoy grape juice and coloring while parents attend an adults-only area wine tasting.
Of course, nobody could adequately experience the Napa Valley in a single day. You may visit the first time just for the wine, but you’ll soon discover that Napa has something for everyone in your family to enjoy. The area’s beauty and diversity beckons to travelers of all ages, encouraging many repeat visits.

    Australians rack up record debt

    January 14th, 2010 by golodasa

Australian households are in record levels of debt, and for the first time have surpassed American levels.

Reserve bank figures show household debt - the combination of personal and mortgage debt - is equivalent to Australia’s GDP.

That means every adult owes an average of $74,000.

Analysts warn that the financial crisis that rocked Main Street in America could well hit Australian families in 2010.

Economics Professor Steve Keen at the University of Western Sydney says it is a sign that families are under financial stress.

“We now have an enormous proportion of income that has to be devoted to paying back interest payments,” he said.

“Even if you leave aside the interest payment fact, if you want to reduce your debt now where it would have taken you on average for Australians back in 1990 it would have taken just a few months, now it would take them a year to get back down to the zero mark.”

However the Council of Social Service says there is already a debt crisis and it will only get worse unless the Federal Government steps in, with the numbers of new families asking charities for help set to increase next year.

The council’s director, Alison Peters, says the Government needs to boost its support.

“We think there needs to be more support given to organisations like local neighbourhood centre like the major charities to be able to assist those people who are really desperate for assistance,” he said.

“A number of our organisations have already reported to us and indeed to the Government that they are seeing not only new families coming forward seeking assistance but many families are coming back again and again for assistance because they really are struggling.”

    House Sale in a Divorce

    January 9th, 2010 by golodasa

Couples seeking dissolution of their marriage often have many emotional, legal and financial hurdles to overcome. After several years of marriage, many married couples have amassed an amount of property and personal effects that now must be divided between the couple. In cases of divorce, sometimes the largest asset owned by the couple would be their home or other property. Many couples wish to take care of matters as soon as possible. In situations where the home or property must be sold, the thought of placing it on today’s slow moving market is incredibly unappealing as it will prolong the divorce proceedings. Also, some couples need their share from the settlement to pay for other expenses or perhaps even bills the couple still holds. There is an option available to couples that find themselves in this situation. House buying companies will purchase your home from you. This would definitely expedite the process and provide you with a fast house sale.

Issues, such as ground rents or sitting tenants, are usually handled by any competent estate agent.

There are many benefits to seeking the services of a home buying company. The first and foremost of course is the ability to sell your home quickly. Listing to estate agents can take much time as the home is viewed by many potential buyers. Some home buying companies can even make you and offer and it accepted quickly, can have you paid in a week. Wouldn’t that make your divorce proceedings definitely quicker? When you list your house for sale with a real estate firm, you will incur fees to the real estate agency. When using a home buying company, these fees would not be needed. Most home buying companies offer free estimates to home buyers. This helps to reduce the costs of unloading your home on the market.

Many estate agents suggest making some basic improvements prior to listing your home for sale. These changes can make your home look more appealing to prospective buyers. However, for a couple going through a divorce this just seems to add more time onto the home selling process. With home buying companies, they will purchases homes in any condition. The offer they make is based on what the home is worth.
